Dr John Yek is an ophthalmologist with subspecialty training in glaucoma.
In addition to the John Buckingham Research Award and the Sunderland Prize for Neuroscience, he won numerous academic awards at the Australian National University where he obtained his medical degree.
Dr Yek was also awarded the University Medal, for being top of his class at the University of Melbourne in his undergraduate studies of Biomedicine, with majors in Neuroscience.
Dr Yek completed his Ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital. In pursuit of excellence and with an eye for detail, he chose to subspecialise in glaucoma, a complex and challenging area of ophthalmology. He completed his glaucoma fellowship at Westmead Hospital where he gained invaluable insight and expertise in the diagnosis, clinical and surgical management of complex glaucoma through this fellowship. He gained experience with novel glaucoma devices, including the latest minimally invasive microshunts. During this time he also taught multiple ophthalmology registrars cataract surgery. He is appointed as a Visiting Medical Officer at Westmead Hospital where he continues to teach cataract surgery.
Dr Yek offers the full spectrum of the latest glaucoma laser treatment and surgeries with a special interest in Micro Incisional Glaucoma Surgery. He also offers Complex Glaucoma Surgery for Advanced glaucoma cases.
He is also fluent in English, Mandarin and basic Cantonese. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing in the Harbour and looking after his pet Cichlids.
